Message to players about the player draft

The Palm Creek Softball League Player Draft                                                   September 11, 2023

The League is comprised of players from five communities, also known as “Clubs”.  Each “Club” has representation through a “Club Rep” to the administration of the league when it comes to items such as the season design, league rules and the player draft.

  • The League Director is responsible for the draft
  • The IT Director provides a list of players who have signed up and information about the players gathered during the signup
  • Club Reps are responsible for selecting Coaches
  • Coaches are responsible to make the individual player selections

The Guiding Principles of the Palm Creek Softball League include Parity, Competitiveness, Fairness and Transparency (amongst other principles).  The Player Draft is designed to meet these principles.

The intent of the league is to separate National and American Division play as the preferred format for league competition as long as there are enough teams to constitute divisional play. If there are not enough payers signed up for a season to have separate National and American Division play, then all players will play in one combined league.  Players who signup after the deadline will be placed on the Substitute List.

Players will be drafted to teams at the League level for the Fall and Spring seasons, when possible, to encourage comradery.  Players will be assigned to teams by their Clubs during Winter season. Coordination between the Club Reps is required to form combined teams with evenly distributed talent of all who signed up to play.

  1. Once the Player Sign-up list is finalized, the League Director and Club Reps determine the Season Design including:
  • Combined play (B and C division play together) or Separate play (B and C play in separate division play)
  • Club or League assignment/draft of players
  • Number of teams in each division
  • The number of games per season
  • Which days the league will play
  • Whether the league or division champions will be determined by a playoff
  1. Once the season is designed, the Player Draft is planned
  • If all players are combined into one league, then a single League-wide draft is held. 
  • If there are enough players to roster separate B and C divisions, then separate drafts are conducted by division.  
  • The drafts may be conducted by each Club or cross-Club (Free Agent) drafts may be used.
  • Rules and process are agreed upon to administer the draft to handle coaches, pitchers, married couples, number of players to be drafted per team.
  • Specific rules and processes vary from season to season.
  • All eligible players are drafted
  • League Director, Club Reps and Coaches are invited to participate in the Player Draft. The selection of a player may be done by a Coach or Club Rep.

    2. Coaches communicate with Players drafted to their team
    3. The Season begins
