Player Rating Assessment and Guidelines

Softball Player Rating, Assessment & Development Guidelines

The Palm Creek Executive Board, specifically the Member-at-Large, will be responsible for the Softball Player Rating, Assessment & Development Process and tools.

All clubs will be involved in the development and maintenance of the process and tools through the club rep’s. Assessors will be assigned and trained by the club reps. These are guidelines.  The table is used to establish a player rating, it is not exact as a player may score high in some areas and not in others. The assessor's goal is to place a player where he will be comfortable, competitive and safe while providing feedback on areas that can focus a player's development plan.

Rating Table

The rating table will be used by the league and all clubs to provide a player rating, assessment and player development opportunities. The intention is to observe a player, record a score for each skill and an overall rating that will be reviewed with the player and stored for future assessment opportunities.

Player ratings

The ratings are used to sort and group, not rank players. It is important to note that the relationship between the player ratings and league format & design is for guidance only. For example, a player rated as a “3” could play in the National “B’ division. The goal is to create parity in our divisions and teams. The ratings are considered in the league format & design, in the draft and to assist in player development. The league director working with the club reps will make those decisions regarding a player's placement for a specific season.

Assessments

There are several ways to initiate an assessment:

 - New players assessment - will be conducted by each club as soon as possible. No player will enter the draft without being rated. This can be done formally or informally, at rec. ball, etc.

 - Club Rep meetings - player rating adjustments will be on the agenda.

 - Player requested - The Club Rep will conduct the assessment formally or informally using the rating table and providing feedback to the player.

 - League or club provided assessment opportunities - Assessors will grade an organized workout for player assessment  & development.

Player Development

The Assessor will provide feedback in the various elements of the Player Rating Table sufficient to describe the players rating and opportunities.
