League Format

                                                                                          Effective October 9, 2022

Rev 1 December 6, 2022

LEAGUE FORMAT

The League Format is the definition of the league as approved by the Palm Creek Softball League Director with concurrence from the Club Reps.  The League Format does not change season to season.  It is used to guide season design decisions.

  1. Guiding Principles of the league are
    1.  Parity - Designing a league where teams have equal chances to win championships
    2.  Competitive - The preference is to have two separate divisions of play when the number of players is sufficient.
    3.  Fairness - The assignment of players to teams by either Club or League draft will improve the fair distribution of talent amongst the teams in the league
    4.  Camaraderie - Encourage positive relationships between teammates and between players in other clubs
    5.  Sportsmanship - Leaders model behaviors that create an environment
    6.  Development - Players are motivated to improve their skills and help others improve.
    7. Transparency - Openly share information with Club Reps and players to increase trust in the League leadership
  2. The Palm Creek Softball League will follow the SSUSA rules. Any rules in addition to the SSUSA rules will be documented as “The Palm Creek Softball League Play Rules” and will be approved by the Palm Creek Softball League Director with concurrence from the Club Reps.
  3. Each year there will be three seasons of play:
    1. Fall Season will begin in November
    2. Winter Season will begin in January
    3. Spring Season will begin in March
  4. Rev 1 Players must be residents of one of five Casa Grande communities.
    1. Fiesta Grande
    2. Mission Royale
    3. Palm Creek
    4. Robson Ranch
    5. SunDance
  5. Rev 1 This list (CLICK HERE FOR LIST) identifies players live outside the above communities but are grandfathered into the league.  No further grandfathering of players into communities will occur after October 9, 2022.  During Club play seasons, players must play on a team from their community.
  6.  Games will be played at Palm Creek and Robson Ranch fields.
  7. Rev 1  Teams will be coed.  Female players must turn 45 years old by the end of the year in which they play and male players must turn 55 years old by the end of the year in which they play.
  8. Players will pay an annual membership fee of $60 to play any or all of the year’s seasons.  The annual membership fee will be paid during the Winter season signup.
  9. There will be two divisions of play
    1. The National Division is designed for highly competitive play made up of skilled players and above average condition
    2. The American Division will provide recreational play for beginning players, players who have not recently played, for those looking to improve their skills or desiring a less competitive environment
  10. All players will be assigned a player assessment rating prior to play in the league.  See Player attachment A "Player Assessment Rating Rules and Process”
  11. If there are not enough payers signed up for a season to have separate National and American Division play, then all players will play in one combined league.  Separate National and American Division play is the preferred format for league competition as long as there are enough teams to constitute division play.
  12. Players will be assigned to teams by the League in the Fall season and Spring season when it is possible to encourage comradery.  Players will be assigned to teams by their Clubs during Winter season. Coordination between the Club Reps is required to form combined teams with evenly distributed talent of all who signed up to play. See Attachment B "Player Draft Rules and Process"
