Information for Coaches

League Calendar – The calendar contains important League dates for three seasons.  It also contains Palm Creek Softball Association-specific dates. Use this link to pull up the calendar.

Palm Creek Field Calendar The Palm Creek Field Calendar is found on the main menu of the website.  Here you can see the game schedule at Palm Creek field, you can when a team has reserved the field for a team practice and when the field is reserved for field preparation by the groundskeeping team.

Line-ups – Line-up sheets need to be submitted to the scorekeeper at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the game.  The earlier the scorekeeper has the line-ups the better chance the games will start on time.  The lineup card template is available by using this LINK

Game Speed – There are a number of things that can be done to speed up the games and help the League stay on time:

Manager Meeting – Prior to Game

  • Managers notified Games will START On-Time & emphasize Pace of Play with their Team
    • Hustle In/Out of Dugout between Innings
    • Be Ready to Hit when you are Up to Bat / On-Deck
    • Fielders Ready when Umpire indicates “Batter-Up” to start an Inning
      • Stop Infield Warm-Up Immediately
        • Failure to Comply – NO further Warm-up for either team
    • Clock Starts on Umpire Signal regardless of player readiness
  • Umpires are Volunteers – Questioning a Play/ruling should be done courteously/politely
  • Cover Field-Specific Ground Rules
  • Injuries – Play will stop for an injury based upon Umpire’s Discretion of severity
    • Baserunners will be re-positioned per Umpire decision prior to game resuming

In addition, Managers should:

1.  Complete and accurate line-up cards delivered to the scorekeeper at least 30 minutes prior to the game

2.      Ask that all players arrive at least 30-45 minutes prior to the game start time.

3.      Warm-up time on the field is not guaranteed, it is dependent on how much time remains between the ending of one game and the scheduled start time of the next game.  Warm-up in the area next to the batting cage prior to the start of the game.   Limit the amount of on-field warm-up drills.

4.      Identify courtesy runners on the dugout line-up card and have the runners ready to substitute so as to not delay the game.

5.      The umpire will manage the time in between games and is responsible for keeping games on schedule.

Player Substitution – The League has developed a Substitute Player process to be used when less than the required number of players are available to play a game.  To find out more about the rule, process and substitute list, please use this link Substitute Player.

Draft – A league-wide draft is used during Fall and Spring seasons as players are not assigned to teams by their Clubs.  Drafts may be used during the Winter season to balance the talent within Club teams.  The drafts are scheduled to occur in the time between the closing of the season sign-up and the start of the season.  The draft is scheduled occur early enough to give the coaches time to contact their players, distribute uniforms and schedule practice prior to the start of the season.  The rules of the League-wide draft will be agreed upon by the Club Reps.  For more information about the draft, click here.

Rules, Format and Season Design – Senior Softball USA rules are used as the basis for league play.  There are Palm Creek Softball League specific rules that supplement or modify the SS-USA rules.  In addition, the Palm Creek Softball League Lead Umpire has provided rule clarifications.  All three can be found on the website using this link.

The League Format is a set of specifications that define how the league will operate.  The Leaue Format doesn't change season to season.

There are certain decisions about league operations that are determined based on the season signup information.  These decisions effect the number of games to be played, whether the divisions will be combined to play or play separately and how players are assigned to teams.  The League Director will work with the Club Reps to agree upon the season play rules and season design .

Player Assessment Rating – In an effort to help coaches select players for their teams, and to help players understand their skill level, Player Assessment Ratings are assigned to each player in the league.  A standard, common set of criteria is used to measure a player’s skills in hitting, throwing, fielding and running.  Use this link to find a list of player ratings and more information. (will be available October 2023).

Practice Times – To reserve team practice times at Palm Creek field, please contact Ray Lee at 636-346-6117.  To reserve team practice times at Robson Ranch field please contact the Robson Ranch Club Rep.

Rain Outs – Rainouts will be decided by (will it be one person for Palm Creek and another for Robson Ranch fields, or just the League Director?)  Who will the League Director call?  Will they use the app on the website?  Will they use the Sportsengine messaging app?

SportsEngine Mobile App – to have league and team information on your smart phone, download the SportsEngine Mobile App.  You can find team schedules, season standings, team rosters and messages from the coach.  Use this link for instructions on how to download the Mobile App.  How to Download the SportsEngine Mobile App - SportsEngine Help Center
